crossing under

the ocean waves

we go to sleep

just like a sunset

comes and goes

and when we realize

how fast and fickle life is

thats all the motivation

we need to go out

and start turning ideas into reality

happenstance

once again

the lawn mower

finds a mushroom patch

chances are

we may have prepared

for the presentation

and yet no amount of

preparation can prepare us

for when magic

and odd stroke of luck arrive

before we leap

nobody around

the horse grazes

as the wind rises

look out

and we will see

the future ahead

if we are willing

to take a chance

at making our dreams

become a reality

part time

end of the week

putting on the uniform

as the lights come on

is not as much

as full time

but still more

than no time

and maybe that’s enough

for being content

in this journey we call life

pick and choose

pear orchard

picking golden orbs

picking sunshine

till this day

we will not have

enough time

to go on all

of our adventures

and that’s okay because

we get to decide what matters

headbands, hats, bandanas

skimming across

the sparkling water

the sea plane lands

scarfs

sunglasses

to even hoods

the list goes on

for the things

we like to put

on top of our heads

nobody really wants

crashing down

the tree branch submits

to the weight of the rain

to talk about

the bad times

or things that

cause us to worry unless

we’re looking for

something to spark

a reaction thats leaves us stressed out

in the media

rather be

a star on the screen

a cafe on the map

…

be aware of what

we choose to share

in the public parts

in the private parts

in the secret parts

of our lives

today and tomorrow

agree to disagree

flipping pancakes

before the bubbles

begin to pop

…

it becomes

dangerous

if we only listen

to the things

we agree or disagree

with the people

we take advice from

our best bet

the long run

enduring the storm

with untied shoes

…

is the one

where we don’t

necessarily know

the outcome

and yet

we still work

towards our goals

could be true

social media

scrolling and scrolling

mindlessly scrolling

…

could be false

could be a ruse

could be amusing

to think about

until we find out the answer

then we must face

the reality of it all

seeds for tomorrow

what hands leave behind

is more than what hands can hold

the future receives

legacy is often mistaken

for what we own

but the most lasting things

rarely fit inside a box

so what we make today

may become someone's memory tomorrow

perhaps legacy is simply love given enough time to travel

come home

a familiar window

holds the evening light the same

but I have changed

home is not always

the place we started

sometimes it is a room we return to after many years

sometimes it is a person sitting beside us in silence

sometimes it is a photo that still knows our face

the places we love become archives of who we once were

we leave them, return to them, and leave again

still something waits there patiently becoming home each time

someone remembers a place, a person, a feeling

the telling gives shape to what might otherwise disappear

we discover that our beginnings

rarely belong to us alone

they are braided from choices, accidents, migrations, and love

keeping

the things we keep
become heavier with time
until they are light

a photograph becomes

a memory, then a story

a story becomes something

we carry for someone else

sometimes keeping means preserving

flipping coins

into the fountain

with frogs and fish

an answer

now whether

we actually like

the answer given

is entirely up to us

and what we think

call it luck

fallen pears

roll perfectly into

blueberry bushes

call it fate

call it chance

call it a fluke

call it serendipity

call it whatever

makes sense

to our minds

step stool

the pantry slumbers

until the light turns on

going to be

situations where

we may need

any extra step

or two to get the thing

we want on the top shelf

mechanical

puttering up

the sprinkler head

appears one last time

the issue

has to be

the machine

is what we often say

until we realize

the issue started

or was caused by us

on the way up

blue wildflowers

the mountain settles

in the wind

and on the way down

the hill is also steep

so it pays to know

how much energy

we spend traveling

to the top and coming back
