play the game
What is your favorite game?
open plain field
sitting in the thick of it
a pair of rackets
…
sometimes we win
sometimes we lose
sometimes we take
things for granted
and the real pleasure
is actually playing the game
we have grown to love
there are times
What have you taught yourself?
dull colored pencils
a horizon vanishes
with eraser dust
…
when we need
to find the answer
for ourselves
instead of asking others
for the answer
as that’s when true growth
and learning happens
organ to the heart
What do you find meditative and relaxing?
at the concert hall
listening to the rainfall
under cypress trees
…
what we find
meditative and relaxing
might not be what others
also feel and that’s okay
what works for us
works for us
and that’s what matters
setting the standard
Are you leading the way?
dining room table
wilting flower arrangements
are the last to leave
…
takes a tremendous
amount of ability
but it doesn’t stop there
we must continue
pushing for change
or else we risk
falling behind
bottle it up
What are you ruminating on?
umeshu bottle
jewels swirling around
and floating down
…
and let things ferment
so they can take their time
to become something else
takes patience by us
for waiting but also
optimal conditions
from the environment
as seen on
What have you discovered recently?
painter’s tape peels
off the side of the gutter
into the trash bin
…
television
local broadcasts
social media
the list goes on
but we must learn
to accept that news
is just news
prototypes
What have you made recently?
a battered suitcase
circling and circling
around the airport
…
are not supposed
to be the final version
of a product
nor are they meant
to solve all of our problems
but show us a way
to make an impact
lackluster
When do you feel uninterested?
single blade of grass
whispering to the gale
welcoming the storm
…
and being uninspired
doesn’t mean we don’t care
about donating to causes
or supporting charities
we simply need to find
the driving force for why
we feel this way in the first place
losing hair
What have you lost?
bittersweet feelings
the wilting flowers sharing
one final rainfall
…
happens to us no matter
how much we wish for it to not
so don’t go worrying
about what’s lost
instead embrace
and welcome the new
version of us today
punching bags
Who is waiting for you to take action?
takeout styrofoam
seeping onto the cement
an oily serpent
…
have no feelings
or freedom of movement
hovering above the ground
by it’s chains attached
to the ceiling awaiting
for our next punch or kick
to make contact
witnesses and bystanders
How do you attend events?
freshly cut hedges
casting moving shadows
on the stadium
…
unless we are
actually involved
and engaged in the game
we no more than
observers and spectators
looking at the screen
or the field
