welcome back
What do you do when you get back home?
black mailbox
a letter from last month
in our hands
…
whenever we go
away for awhile
to another place
returning home
will always bring
a smile and sigh
to our faces
out of bounds
What are your boundaries?
cross the line
a crow drops
an apple core
…
the funny thing
about boundaries
is that everyone
has their own
sense of what is
considered
in and off limits
directions
When was the last time you went to the wrong location?
pot holes
along the road
to the parking lot
…
don’t matter
if they take us
to the wrong place
for if the first step
is to put our faith and trust
into something the next step
requires us to check and verify
look forward
Where are you looking?
slowing down
on the driveway
a squirrel runs by
…
look left
look right
look behind
no matter where
or which way we look
we should take into account
what’s going on around us
popped collar
Do you stand out?
fashion statement
a beaver puts a leaf
on it’s tail
…
when we think
about what makes
something stand out
we need not look far
as the things that
are noticed tend to always
be different from the norm
listen to this
What have you heard recently?
alarm sounds
the firetruck roars
past rush hour
…
the more we read
into the news
the more our expectations
and assumptions
about what goes on
will grow until it
happens to us
phone home
Are you discovering what matters to you?
blinking light
the gas station waits
for travelers
…
on the road
we get to discover
what matters
and is important to us
even if we find ourselves
away from home
and our phone
on and off and on
paper lanterns
miss looking for
the moon
…
the light switch
only knows to go
back and forth
bringing light
or letting darkness
into a space and time
with the flick of our finger
flavors and all
What is your favorite food to taste/eat?
strawberry baskets
a field of rubies left
for the picking
…
the number of times
we have tried
a certain food
maybe a lot
or not so much
but we can all agree
we remember the taste
second coat
How do you assess change?
let the paint dry
on the picket fence
as summer ends
…
the first coat
gave us perspective
on the potential
now this second coat
will give us time to decide
if we need to apply
a third coat or leave as is
imagine this
Are you keeping your ideas as ideas?
one day
we will see flowers
bloom in the garden
…
the ideas and dreams
we hold onto
also need our
attention and action
for it to truly manifest
into reality or else
they will stay in our imaginations
follow the footsteps
Are you following others’ path or making your own?
farewell speech
a moment of silence
in the crowd
…
living up to expectations
after a legend or hero retires
is not what we need to focus on
it is the time for us to dig deeper
and truly understand
where we want to go
on our own journey
yes, no, maybe so
What art are you holding back?
at day break
the waves crash
and make a canvas
…
will we go
with the flow
and take it slow
for every artist knows
when it’s time to show
our projects we let grow
for others to see glow
