find a reason
Are you making your ideas into reality?
dozens of boxes
left on the side
never opened
…
for our idea
that lives on
in our minds
to make into
a reality
for others to see
with their own eyes
coat hanger
Are you multifacted?
fall wardrobe
so many leaves
so many choices
…
just because
we call or refer
to it as a
coat hanger
doesn’t mean
it can only
hold up coats
open or closed
Are you building bridges or walls with others?
in the rain
a robin looking
for shelter
…
we should
be willing to
build bridges
and not walls
with empathy and trust
when we are unsure
about any topic
chopping wood
Are you prepared?
power outage
the city goes to sleep
five hours early
…
even if we have
all the things
we would need
at this very moment
it pays to be
proactive instead of
reactive when disaster strikes
most of us
How do you make decisions?
left waiting for
the wind to pass
over the bridge
…
most of the time
our important decisions
are almost always made
after measuring and evaluating
all of our possibilities
until we execute one and then
come back to reevaluate
at the time
How do you see things now?
on the ground
a pair of scissors
next to red fabric
…
we may have
seen or believed
something only
from one perspective
but overtime
we now can view
things differently
tap tap tap
What items have disappeared from your day-to-day life?
one day
the button
disappeared
…
sooner or later
we will find
one way of doing
or operating things
will fade away
and enter
a new normal
highway to driveway
Do you know where you’re going?
around the lake
the end of rain clouds
into the city
…
getting from
point a to point b
will take time
but as long as
we remember
where we’re going
we will never get lost
ahead or behind
Are you where you want to be?
evening walk
moments before
the moon arrives
…
schedule
is a waiting game
for some
playing catch up
for others
instead of living
in the now
built to last
In your mind, what has stood the test of time?
licorice
only some have
tried the branch
…
a day
a week
a month
a year
a lifetime
a question we
ought to ask ourselves
things to do
What do you need to do today?
leaves and pine nuts
around the maple tree
squirrels celebrate
…
there will
always be
something to do
and if we do it
there will
always be
the next thing to do
practical is magical
What do you still do by hand?
the puppet turns
along the road
with no strings
…
sometimes
doing things
by hand
even if it’s moving
an object by a hair
can make something
become magical
for when in doubt
Where do you put your trust?
flint and stone
the fire awakens
to cold fingertips
…
take time
or ask someone else
to double or even triple check
as our concept
and willingness to trust
what we see, speak,
and hear about online
is at a tipping point
picture this
What symbols do you use daily?
umbrellas open
a warning before
the storm arrives
…
while we could
write it down
or even speak
things out loud
a picture or symbol
can communicate
what we’re trying to tell others
bake a cake
What are you thinking about?
red velvet
out of the oven
in time for dessert
…
takes time
and if we
are willing
it give us time
to think about
past, present,
and prospective steps
wired differently
What are you content with?
the shift ends
time to take off
gardening gloves
…
just knowing
what we are fulfilled with
how we are fulfilled
why we are fulfilled
is knowledge
that should not be
forgotten or misplaced
out of power
What do you do when the powers out?
a little rain
a little leaves
hit our windows
…
the benefit
of having no power
gives us a chance
to take a walk, breathe,
and separate ourselves
from the very screens
that hold our attention
highlighters
When was the last time you marked up a book?
lightning
striking the tree
one second later
…
the next time
we read an article
have a marker handy
as we never know
what lessons
we will find and want
to remember for later
let it sink in
Are you giving your dreams time?
the storm
never bothered
the monkey again
…
our days will come
and eventually go
but knowing this
is the very reason
we should be doing
what we dream of
without fear or regret
